Language Theory

Language is a system, an activity, and a product of human consciousness. A working definition of and approach to issues related to language is fundamental to rhetoric and composition scholarship and pedagogy. I’m interested in the ways twentieth century theories of language might critically inform contemporary conversations about digital composition practices and the composition classroom.

Blog: Language Speaks

This blog is a record of my reflections on readings toward my Specialized Literature Area (SLA) exam in the Fall of 2008. I am interested in the roles played by ideas of difference, différance, and distinction in the work of Bourdieu and Derrida. I’m also interested in the potential for Heidegger and Benjamin to inform conversations about contemporary digital composition practices.
